SUMMIT TECHNOLOGIES SELECTS VIVATO FOR LARGE-SCALE WIRELESS
DEPLOYMENT IN CANADA
Vivato's Maximum Coverage Wi-Fi Systems Increases Productivity
for Logistics Industry
San Francisco, Calif. - May 18, 2004 - Vivato, a leading
provider of wireless networking equipment, announced today that
Summit Technologies, a wireless network solutions provider, has
chosen Vivato base stations and access points to enable a public
hot zone at Montreal's historic Westmount Square. The deployment
provides wireless access to residents, guests and enterprise users
in a complex of three 22-story skyscrapers that includes an office
building, an upscale mall and two residential towers.
Deploying a wireless network in Westmount Square posed site-specific
challenges due to each building's aesthetics and unique design.
Tadaa Wireless, a leading high-speed wireless Internet access provider,
contracted Summit Technologies to design a network that would provide
the structure for wireless applications, such as inventory management
and security systems, for the complex. To meet the guidelines of
the deployment, Summit selected Vivato equipment to build a wireless
network that required minimal equipment and wiring but extended
wireless access to users both in the buildings and within a 1.5-mile
radius.
"Our initial site surveys indicated that more than 160 traditional
access points would be required to provide Wi-Fi throughout these
three skyscrapers, with independent wiring to each device,"
said Johannes Jobst, CTO of Summit Technologies. "Not only
was this prohibitive from a cost standpoint, but it was impossible
if we wanted to preserve the integrity and aesthetics of historic
Westmount Square. Vivato was the only viable solution for a deployment
of this size and nature."
Summit Technologies deployed three Vivato VP1200 Wi-Fi Base Stations
and six VivatoVA 2200 Wi-Fi AP/Bridges as its network blueprint.
Vivato's extended range allowed Summit Technologies to take an unconventional
"inside-out" approach, installing the Vivato equipment
inside a window of one building to provide Wi-Fi to an adjacent
building, which preserves the structural and design aesthetics of
the buildings.
"The Westmount Square deployment is the most unique extension
and ambitious project of its kind in Canada, because we have been
able to provide wireless access in an environment where it was previously
unimaginable," said Daniel Yeboah, president of Tadaa Wireless.
"This deployment proves that Vivato's smart antenna technology
enables extended Wi-Fi in diverse areas."
"The Vivato solution at Westmount Square demonstrates Vivato's
versatility, and its unique suitability for large scale deployments,"
said Kevin Ryan, vice president of marketing and business development
for Vivato. "This particular opportunity to work with Tadaa
Wireless and Summit Technologies demonstrated how Vivato has the
technology best-suited for cost-effective extended wireless deployments."
